OIH – in collaboration with the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research – is a proud partner in the WorldFAIR project -a global cooperation on FAIR data policy and practice – funded by the European Commission within the Horizon Europe Framework Programme (grant agreement 101058393) and coordinated by CODATA. Representing the ocean domain in a constellation of 11 case studies, we are contributing to the development of a cross-domain interoperability framework that will help domains from cultural heritage to nanomaterials discover and exchange data, information, and other digital assets with ever increasing interoperability.
A key milestone resulting from this collaboration is that OIH – leveraging ODISCat and the resources of our federated partners – can now provide a FAIR solution to integrate and make accessible databases of sub-national, national, regional, and global stakeholders, ia their experts, projects, training opportunities, and a growing list of other digital assets being developed in our open-access GitHub repository.
Moreover, this federated resource is available using generic interoperability standards, accessible to any domain, and will be available to the other partners in WorldFAIR for use and further co-development. Assessing the ocean datascape and the actors in the ocean digital ecosystem is now enhanced, at a global level.
We welcome the challenges and opportunities of bridging digital ecosystems with our FAIR implementation partners, and hope to bring new value to our ODIS partnership and the wider ocean community.
